I would've hoped that nurses wouldn't have been globally represented with this view of parental notification. I am an RN and parent. The autonomy rights of unemancipated minors are ill-defined at best, but this argument to me appears as a poorly veiled pro-abortion argument with professional nursing endorsement. Even the argument of confidentiality cannot convince me that so many teens would be at risk, when I believe most parents love and would support their daughters through times such as these. Nurses should be concerned about the actual nature of informed consent, does a teen girl under duress really comprehend the procedure along with its physical and emotional ramifications beyond immediate circumstances?
